Red face

Dammit...I wanted to avoid this...but there are people I wish to contact, and all I can find are My Space pages. You can't contact them without joining.

*sigh*

Okay Carl,

But here is a helpful tip.

Make sure you angle your cell phone camera just right when taking your pic. A little less pout.

Model your page after this guy...

Seriously though, it's amazing who I've run into on that sight. Got a message from a band last night that we played with in Bilbao, Spain! back in 96. That blew my mind.

<font size="4" face="Arial">LOL!!! Man, I think he likes vampires and himself a bit too much!!!

I've just been noticing that many bands out there have let their actual websites die, and have all turned to letting My Space be their actual sites. It's an ugly land...but it almost seems like if you want any contact with people anymore, you have to pay the piper. Hell, I'm whoring myself out in so many ways nowdays for this damn attempt at the book, it's sick.

I think the reason for bands focusing just on myspace is this.

Your website getting hit if you're a small time band is going to be minimal at best.

It's really just the evolution of the internet.

With Myspace, you can target your music to the actual people who like your genre of music. There are 47 million users and growing on that sight. The stats on our band website is probably around a few thousand. On our myspace page the page views are close to 20 thousand and audio plays 12 thousand.

Now whats really cool lately is the addition of adding a myspace song to someones page. I've come across several people that have liked one of our songs and have it embedded in their profile. You can't buy advertising like that.

I've noticed several bigger Indie labels have 1-2 pre-pages of bands who have releases. The pre-website pages have a link to the bands myspace page to listen to a preview of the new CD. From a labels perspective it's also a great marketing tool that can just propogate itself. Plus you aren't absorbing the costs of streaming audio bandwidth on your labels webserver. You're offloading some of your marketing costs and getting added value of fans spreading the word about you.

Yeah, I know it would be wise and all that. It's just such an ugly friggin' thing.

Awww, Tom looks lonely on your friends list.
Sorry to hear you had to succumb to the dark side.

LOL! I think Tom owns My Space or something.

Thanks for the sympathy. I've been thinking I was going to go this route for awhile now. It can only help me get some "connections" for this damned book that is at a standstill. So, what the hell.

It appears though that I already goofed up. I seem to have signed up for the "looking to meet people" version and not the "band" version. Thereby, I can't post any of my tunes. So, it looks that this one will be strictly for connecting with certain bands and whatnot, and I will have a link to my Multiply site which will be the main "blog"/music site.

I feel "dirty"...

Yeah, Tom was one of the pair that started Myspace, but I believe he's something like CEO now, as they sold to News Corp. (owners of Fox) a while back.

No doubt certain features will go 'subscription based' in due course, as Myspace has no serious competition.

Yeah, and Tom is what...26 or 27? I have a feeling he is FAR from lonely. He probably has more friends than God and/or Bill Gates...combined.
